Dr. Steven Thatcher, born and raised in Massachusetts, started his studies at Boston University with a major in biology in 1982, where he was selected for early admission to Boston University School of Medicine after his sophomore undergraduate year. A Commonwealth Scholar at Boston University where he obtained his MD degree, Dr. Thatcher was accepted to Northwestern University in Chicago for his internship in general medicine and neurology in 1990, and completed his studies in Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation in 1994 at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago at Northwestern University. He began his practice with Christie Clinic that year, and has practiced as medical director of inpatient rehabilitation at Provena Hospital from 1994-2005, while conducting an outpatient practice focused on pain management.
In 2005, Dr. Thatcher began to focus solely on his outpatient orthopedic joint and spine pain practice and moved his practice to Christie Clinic on Windsor, where he has devoted his full attention to assisting patients with all forms of pain. His practice is now directed specifically at pain management.
Dr. Thatcher is fully board certified by the American Board of Medical Specialties in both Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (1994) and in Pain Medicine (2005). He is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of PM&R, and the Champaign County Medical Society. He is a clinical instructor for the University of Illinois Medical School, and has lived with his family in Champaign-Urbana for 15 years.
Dr. Thatcher enjoys kayaking, hiking, photography and writing.
